Royal Navy Way of Leadership

In the introduction to this recently published book, the author Andrew St George observes:

"The Royal Navy excels in rational, timely decision making. The Second Sea Lord (then Admiral Sir James Burnell-Nugent) asked me to write this book. He knew that good leadership brings clarity to uncertain situations. He carried with him Nelson's Trafalgar Memorandum (9 Oct 1805) which is an account of the meeting between Vice-Admiral Nelson and his commanders setting out the plan for engaging the French and Spanish Fleets.
Burnell-Nugent identified in Nelson's scheme the essence of Mission Command - intent, resources, strategy, contingency and inspiration. The Royal Navy way of leadership translates easily and effectively to industry, commerce, charities and government; in fact, to any organisation or task that involves getting people to do things together."
